What Happens When Someone Reports My Passing?

Aftir includes a passing confirmation system designed to help ensure that your wishes are carried out only after your passing has been reasonably confirmed. If one of your trusted contacts reports that you have passed away, **nothing is released immediately simply because one person submitted a report.** The Confirmation Process When a trusted contact reports your passing: * The report is recorded. * Additional trusted contact confirmations may be required, depending on the confirmation rule you selected in your Legacy settings. * Trusted contacts who are authorized to confirm your passing can submit their own confirmation if they have independent knowledge of your passing. You choose how many confirmations are required: * One trusted contact * Two trusted contacts * All active trusted contacts If the Required Confirmations Are Received Once the required number of confirmations has been received, your account is considered confirmed for passing. At that point: * After-passing messages, videos, and other scheduled legacy deliveries become eligible for release according to your settings. * Your account status changes to indicate that your passing has been confirmed. If Someone Believes the Report Is Incorrect Any trusted contact with permission to do so can dispute the report if they believe it is inaccurate. When a dispute is submitted: * All passing-related releases are immediately paused. * Your account enters the dispute process. * You will receive an email asking you to verify that you are still alive. Nothing requiring confirmation of passing will continue until the dispute has been resolved. Designed to Prevent Mistakes The confirmation and dispute system is intended to balance two important goals: * Ensuring your legacy is carried out when the time comes. * Preventing accidental or incorrect reports from triggering your legacy prematurely. By requiring confirmations and allowing disputes, Aftir provides multiple safeguards before your legacy is activated.
