How Passing Disputes Are Resolved

A passing dispute remains active until there is enough information to determine whether you are still alive or whether your passing has been confirmed. During the dispute period, all after-passing releases remain paused. A Dispute Can Be Resolved in Several Ways A passing dispute may be resolved if: * You click the secure verification link sent to your email. * You log in to your Aftir account during the dispute period. * The 30-day dispute period expires without any verification or account activity. * An Aftir administrator reviews the available information and manually resolves the case. If You Verify That You Are Alive If you verify that you are still alive by clicking the verification link or by logging in to your account: * The dispute is immediately resolved. * Your account returns to active status. * All paused after-passing releases remain protected. * Trusted contacts may report your passing again in the future if it becomes necessary. If the Dispute Expires If no verification or account activity is received during the 30-day dispute period, the dispute will automatically expire. Your account will continue through the passing confirmation process, and after-passing content may become eligible for release according to your settings. Administrative Review In some situations, Aftir may manually review and resolve a passing dispute. Examples may include: * Verified documentation confirming a passing. * The account owner contacting Aftir directly. * Technical issues affecting the verification process. * Other situations where manual intervention is necessary. Administrative reviews are intended to ensure that each passing dispute is handled as accurately and fairly as possible. Protecting Your Legacy The passing dispute process is designed to balance two important goals: * Preventing accidental or incorrect passing reports. * Ensuring your wishes are carried out when your passing has been reasonably confirmed. These safeguards help protect both you and the people who will one day receive your legacy.
