Privacy Policy

Aftir is built around personal memories, memorials, and legacy content. We take that responsibility seriously.

Effective: July 15, 2026
Last Updated: July 18, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Aftir collects, uses, stores, protects, and discloses information when you use our website, create an account, build memorials, create My Legacy pages, purchase premium features, or otherwise use our services.

Information We Collect

We collect information you choose to provide, information generated through your use of Aftir, and certain technical information necessary to operate, secure, and improve the platform.

How We Use Information

We use information to operate and improve Aftir, including to:

Analytics and Service Improvement

Aftir collects information about how memorials, My Legacy pages, and other features are used in order to provide analytics to account owners, understand overall platform usage, improve the user experience, enhance reliability, and protect the security of the platform.

Analytics may include page views, memorial interactions, traffic sources, referrer information, approximate geographic location derived from IP address, browser and device information, and other activity generated while using Aftir.

Public and Private Content

Some Aftir content may be public if it is published or intentionally shared. Other content may remain unpublished, private, or accessible only to the account owner depending on the feature and settings available.

Users should only upload or publish content they have the right to share and are comfortable making available to others.

User-Generated Content

Aftir allows users to create memorials, My Legacy pages, stories, memories, comments, and other content, and to upload photographs and videos. Users are responsible for ensuring they have the right to upload and publish any content they submit. Public content may be visible to other users and visitors based on the privacy settings selected by the account owner.

Blocking and Reporting

Memorial owners may delete memories submitted to their memorials. When a memorial owner chooses to block and report a registered user, Aftir deletes the memory from the memorial, blocks the reported user from viewing or contributing to the reporting user's memorials, and preserves a private copy of the reported memory for administrative review.

A report may include the identities or account identifiers of the reporting and reported users, the reported memory and its original submission date, the memorial associated with the report, the selected report reason, optional details provided by the reporting user, and information about Aftir's administrative review.

Blocking records and report information are used to provide user safety controls, investigate potential violations, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, enforce Aftir's Terms of Service, and protect the security and integrity of the platform. Reports and preserved report copies are not displayed publicly.

Photos, Videos, and Memorial Content

Aftir may store photos, videos, written memories, and other media that users upload for memorial or legacy purposes. This content is used to provide the service and display pages as directed by the user.

Cookies and Basic Site Data

Aftir may use cookies or similar technologies to support login sessions, security, site functionality, analytics, and performance. Browser settings may allow you to limit or disable cookies, though some features may not work properly without them.

Payments

Aftir offers optional paid features, premium upgrades, and subscriptions that are securely processed through Stripe. Aftir does not collect or store complete payment card numbers, security codes (CVV), or card expiration dates.

To activate purchases, manage subscriptions, provide customer support, maintain transaction history, and meet accounting and legal obligations, Aftir stores limited purchase information such as the purchased product, purchase amount, subscription status, transaction dates, and payment transaction identifiers provided by Stripe.

All payment card information is collected and processed directly by Stripe in accordance with Stripe's Privacy Policy and security standards.

Information Sharing

Aftir does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

We may share limited information only when necessary to operate and provide Aftir's services, including with trusted service providers such as:

We may also disclose information when required by applicable law, legal process, governmental request, or when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, security, or integrity of Aftir, our users, or the public.

Data Security

Information transmitted between your device and Aftir is protected using encrypted HTTPS connections.

Aftir uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect user information and account access. These safeguards include password hashing, CSRF protection, login rate limiting, security event logging, administrative audit logging, and account-deletion auditing.

While no website or online service can guarantee complete security, Aftir is committed to protecting memorial, legacy, account, and payment-related information with appropriate care.

Data Retention

Aftir retains personal information and user-generated content for as long as necessary to provide the services requested by users, maintain account functionality, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the security and integrity of the platform.

When an account deletion request is submitted, Aftir begins a structured deletion process that includes a 30-day grace period. During that period, the account owner may cancel the request and retain the account.

After the grace period expires and the required deletion review is completed, eligible account information, memorial content, My Legacy content, uploaded media, and associated personal data are permanently deleted, anonymized, or otherwise handled in accordance with Aftir's Account Deletion process.

Certain limited records may be retained when reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, financial reporting, legal compliance, dispute resolution, user safety, security, or enforcement purposes. These records may include blocking records, submitted reports, preserved copies of reported content, administrative review notes, and related audit information. Retained records are limited to the information reasonably necessary for these purposes and are not kept as publicly accessible content.

Your Choices

Aftir gives users control over the information they choose to share. Depending on the feature, users may edit, update, publish, unpublish, or remove memorials, My Legacy content, photographs, videos, comments, and other eligible user-generated content through their account tools.

Users may also manage account information, update profile details, change passwords, and control the visibility of public content where those options are available.

Users may request permanent deletion of their Aftir account through their Account Settings or by visiting Aftir's public Account Deletion page. Account deletion requests include a 30-day grace period during which the request may be canceled before permanent deletion occurs.

Account Deletion

Users may permanently delete their Aftir account at any time through the Account Settings within their account or by using Aftir's public Account Deletion page.

Account deletion requests enter a 30-day grace period, allowing the account owner to cancel the request before permanent deletion occurs. Once the grace period expires and the required deletion review has been completed, eligible personal information, memorials, My Legacy content, uploaded media, and other associated account data are permanently removed or anonymized in accordance with Aftir's Account Deletion process.

Additional information about deleting an account is available at https://aftir.net/account-deletion.

Children’s Privacy

Aftir is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to access, update, correct, download, or request deletion of your personal information. You may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing of your information where permitted by law.

Most account information and user-generated content can be managed directly through your Aftir account. If you need additional assistance regarding your personal information or privacy rights, please contact us using the information provided below.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Aftir evolves, new features are introduced, or legal requirements change. Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Aftir after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

Aftir relies on trusted third-party providers to deliver certain features and operate the platform securely.

These providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform the services they provide on Aftir's behalf and are responsible for protecting that information in accordance with their own privacy and security practices.
